This will be just one of many events taking place around Australia on 10th February 2018 to cry out to God for revival, transformation an outpouring of His Spirit and for many to be saved across Australia.
The National Day of Prayer & Fasting – Brisbane Event is being organized by the same team of people that organized the National Day of Prayer & Fasting Events at Queensland Parliamentary Annexe between 2011 and 2016, and the 2017 event in the Brisbane City Hall. This is the same team that has also organized the monthly “Brisbane Prays” prayer meetings during 2015, 2016, and 2017 (and upcoming ones in 2018). We have moved to Sommerville House to gain a bigger venue and better car parking.
The Brisbane team encourages the cities and regions around South East Queensland and Queensland and across the nation to organize their own events.
There will also be National Day of Prayer and Fasting events in South East Queensland at Ipswich, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.
Please check out main National Day of Prayer website for a full list of where other events will be held and more details, and if you do not find one in your region, please consider helping to coordinate or organize an interdenominational prayer and worship event on the National Day of Prayer & Fasting (10 Feb 18) or in the weeks before or after that. People are also being encouraged to organize prayer & praise events in the 40 Days of Prayer & Praise relay following which is from 14 Feb – 25 March 2018 (and register them on www.40DayPrayerRelay.com).
National Day of Prayer & Fasting -Brisbane Event: Practical Details for Saturday 10 February 2018 – 10am to 4pm Sommerville House, South Brisbane
The National Day of Prayer & Fasting is an annual gathering to pray and fast for ourselves, our churches, our city, state and nation. The theme of this year’s event is Revival & Transformation.

Sommerville House (and school) is between Vulture St, Graham St and Stephens Rd on the city side of the Mater Hospital and Lady Cilento Hospital.
Location of Sommerville House (school) in South Brisbane.
When is the Brisbane Day of Prayer and Praise ?
Saturday 10 February 2018, 10am to 4pm. You are encouraged to stay the whole day.
A 72 to 76-hour non-stop Bible Reading Marathon will be begin at Speakers corner near QLD Parliament /Gardens Point QUT entrance the night before , continue during the National Day of Pray & Fasting and finishing on the Monday afterwards. The bible reading marathon will run from Friday 9th February 6pm to Monday 12th Feb 2017 approx 9pm – that is 75 hours. For more info about both bible reading marathons please see the page on this website: Bible Reading Marathon
Please be warned that visitor parking under the Riverside Expressway or in any QUT carpark in 2017 and 2018 is now very expensive compared to previous years – unless you have a student card to swipe at payment machines- $30 for just over an hour and increases rapidly after that. ie Find somewhere else to park (google first before leaving home), or better still, catch public transport, especially on the Monday unless you qualify for an early bird entry and exist from a paid carpark. Its a decent walk from Central Train Station, Queen St Bus Station or from South Bank Train Station (via Goodwill Bridge across to Gardens Point QUT).
Where are the Events for the National Day of Prayer?
The Brisbane Event will be at Sommerville House (school) in South Brisbane on Sat 10 Feb 18 between 10am to 4pm.
In 2017, the focus moved to having regional events all over Australia (and its islands), instead of just the one main national event in Canberra. The regional focus will continue in 2018.
Moving the event regionally focus allows more Australians to get involved, and hopefully continue in joint prayer and worship in their local area….. and to gain greater geographical prayer and worship cover over our nation.
In past years (upto and including 2016) there was a large national event that was held in the Great Hall in Parliament House, Canberra. Another reason for moving away from the big national indoor event on the Sunday was that the hire cost of the hall in Canberra Parliament was becoming very expensive…. Which is another reason why it makes sense to go regional.
Instead of a state pre-event at Queensland Parliament (as happened between 2011 and 2016), the hope is that there will be a multiplication of regional events all over South East Queensland on Saturday the 10th of February 2018 on the topic of revival and transformation.
There are plans to hold events in Brisbane, Ipswich, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Canberra, Hobart, Cairns, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and numerous regional centres across Australia as part of the National Day of Prayer and Fasting initiate…. and in cities and towns where ever Christian leaders and prayer leaders across the denominations are able to collaborate to organize an event on Saturday 10th February 2018.
Brisbane’s Prayer and Praise event is being held at Sommerville House in South Brisbane on Saturday 10th February 2017 at the same time as many other events across the nation. For location of other events and other details please see national website: www.nationaldayofprayer.com.au/locations/
We are praying that local churches all across the nation on Sunday 11th February 2018 will allocate significant time or segments towards praying for Revival in our nation. Resources are available from the www.nationaldayofprayer.com.au website to assist churches.
Each person and family member coming needs to register to help us know how many are coming. However, if a person doesn’t have computer access, they are welcome to just come, as there are no security requirements this year (as there was for the Parliamentary Annexe in previous years (2011-16.)
You can register for free using eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/national-day-of-prayer-amp-fasting-brisbane-12344243038 .
Is there a Cost?
There is no charge to register. A love offering can be given when registering or on the day to help cover the costs of organizing the National Day of Prayer & Fasting events in Brisbane and around Australia (venue hire/equipment, advertisements, posters, video clips, admin etc.)
What about Food?
We encourage everyone to fast during this time, as it is the Australian National Day of Prayer & Fasting. If you wish to eat, you can slip outside and snack on something you have brought from home. Water will be available.
Who may come?
All Christians who believe in prayer as the answer for our present local, state and national situation. We would like to see as many churches as possible from many different denominations, suburbs in the Brisbane area represented. So please spread the word to your friends, family, and church.
Are Children allowed?
No babysitting will be provided. Older children may come accompanied by a guardian, provided that they wish to participate/pray.
Do I need to bring anything?
- Bible, notepad and pen.
- Your cardigan/jacket in case air conditioning is too cold.
- A bottle of water can come in handy.
What do I need to do before coming?
Please ask God to reveal any issues of forgiveness/reconciliation/repentance that need to take place in your heart, before you arrive. Also seek God (individually and in your churches) for what is on His heart for the city, state and nation, and how He wants us to pray. The theme for 2018 is REVIVAL and TRANSFORMATION.
We are relying a lot on emails, social media and word-of-mouth to get the message out, so please share this widely and with your friends, church, ministries and home groups or connect groups. (eg can email a link, or like the page on facebook – see buttons below)
Volunteers will be needed before and on the day. Please let us know if you can help.
Please also consider participating in the 75 hour (3 day) Bible Reading Marathon at Speakers Corner adjacent to Queensland Parliament House, near the entrance to Gardens Point QUT University (Alice St/George St Brisbane City). This is the same location that it was held in 2015, 2016 &2017. See Bible Reading Marathon. We will need plenty of volunteers to read the bible for 15 minutes at a time. We also need volunteers for team captains to ensure smooth running and step in if someone fails to show up. For security reasons we need extra guys to do the night shifts.
