When is the Queensland Day of Prayer & Fasting?

Saturday 30 January 2016, 10am to 4pm. You are encouraged to stay the whole day. The day will end by marching around Parliament House ending up at Speakers’ Corner where a 72-hour non-stop Bible Reading Marathon will be begin.

Registration?

Because of security and workplace health & safety issues you MUST register so that names can be given to authorities prior to the event. Therefore registrations will close a few days before the event. Each person and family member coming needs to register.

You can register for free using eventbrite www.qdopf2016.eventbrite.com.au .

Is there a Cost?

There is no charge to register. A love offering can be given when registering or on the day to help cover the considerable costs for the National Day of Prayer & Fasting events in Canberra, Brisbane and around Australia (hall hire, security, advertisements, posters, video clips etc.)

Security?

Please cooperate with any security procedures that Parliament House may deem necessary. Baggage will be screened like it is at the airport upon entry so allow plenty of time to get through security.

You also need to bring your ticket from eventbrite along with you, as well as some Government recognised ID (eg drivers licence etc), due to the extra security this year.

When you have passed through security, please continue onto the welcome desk to pick up your name tag, and keep you name tag on.

What about Food?

We encourage everyone to fast during this time. If you must eat, you can slip outside and snack on something you have brought from home. Water will be available.

Who may come?

All Christians who believe in prayer as the answer for our present local, state and national situation. We would like to see as many churches as possible from many different denominations, suburbs and centres represented. So please spread the word to your friends, family, and church.

Are Children allowed?

No babysitting will be provided. Older children may come accompanied by a guardian, provided that they wish to participate/pray, and cooperate with security.

Do I need to bring anything?

  1. A printout of your ticket from eventbrite.
  2. Government recognized ID (eg drivers licence).
  3. Bible, notepad and pen.
  4. Friends that have registered.
  5. Your cardigan/jacket in case air conditioning is too cold (the air conditioning can’t be adjusted), despite it being summer.   Each year we get asked “You wouldn’t happen to have a spare cardigan/coat etc, would you?”

What do I need to do before coming?

Please ask God to reveal any issues of forgiveness/reconciliation/repentance that need to take place in your heart, before you arrive. Also seek God (individually and in your churches) for what is on His heart for the city, state and nation, and how He wants us to pray. The theme for 2016 is JESUS.

Help needed!

We are relying a lot on emails, social media and word-of-mouth to get the message out, so please share this widely and with your church.

Volunteers will be needed before and on the day. Please let us know if you can help.

Please also consider participating in either or both of the 72 hour Bible Reading Marathons.    One will be at the Speakers Corner adjacent to Queensland Parliament House, near the entrance to QUT University (where it was in 2015), and another one if we have enough volunteers will be in King George Square. We will need plenty of volunteers to read the bible for 15 minutes at a time. We also need volunteers for team captains to ensure smooth running and step in if someone fails to show up. For security reasons we need extra guys to do the night shifts.

What if I can’t make it to Canberra or Brisbane?

Each State or Territory of Australia is encouraged to follow Queensland’s example and have a pre-event on Saturday 30 January 2015.

In addition to this, churches and Christians around Australia are encouraged to organize their own pre-events, no matter how large or small, anytime from Saturday 30 January 2016 to 7th February 2016 leading up to the National Day on Sunday 7th of February.  This can be as simple as a special prayer meeting or turning an existing prayer meeting or home group into a focus on praying for our nation. Go to Local events to see these or add yours. Please let your contacts know about these events too.

You could also organize local event/s after National Day of Prayer or during the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting. You might meet some people that live near you at the main event that are interested, and then decide to organize one (or more) for your local area.

On the Sunday 7th February you can participate in the National Event in a variety of ways. Church leaders are asked to include in their services a short pre-written statement and prayer that is found on the website. There will also be a live webcast from Canberra on 7th of February (note 9 am – 3 pm QLD time). All these can be accessed through the website www.nationaldayofprayer.com.au

What happens after the main event in Canberra?

We invite you to participate in the 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting which is from Wed 10 February – Sunday 20 March 2016 (through Lent).  Register at www.40daysofprayer.com.au

Video clips of 40 stories from our indigenous brothers and sisters will also be released one day at a time over this period. See 40stories.com.au.

Please Remember to:

Register (Queensland Day of Prayer, 72 hour Bible Reading Marathon, 40 Days of Prayer), invite friends and check that they have also registered.
