Australian National Day of Prayer and Fasting 2020- Brisbane & Queensland Events

There are currently 22 different events for the National Day of Prayer and Fasting within Queensland, with 14 within South East Queensland, in addition to the webcast and bible reading marathon.

  • Webcast (Online/ Your place) – A webcast, live from Parliament House lawns in Canberra, will be available between 9am to 3pm QLD time (10 to 4pm ACT time) on Sat 22nd Feb 2020. The link will appear on the homepage of the www.nationaldayofprayer.org.au shortly before it goes live on Saturday morning 22nd February.
  • Everyone in SE Qld (except Rothwell and Gold Coast who will still be going)   are encouraged to come also to the evening Celebration event in King George Square in Brisbane City. Those in SE Qld please also consider participating in the bible reading marathon next to Parliament House, which will be running nonstop for 72hrs from Fri evening 21st to Mon evening 24th.

Further afield events in regional Queensland will also be held at  Ingleside (west of Toowoomba), MaryboroughHervey BayCharters Towers, and Emerald. In North Queensland they will be held at Innisfail, Millaa Millaa and Weipa.

Annual National Day of Prayer & Fasting- Brisbane City- Sat 22 Feb 2020

The National Day of Prayer and Fasting is on Saturday 22nd February 2020 right across Australia.

Brisbane City will be hosting two (2) National Day of Prayer & Fasting events on the same day – Saturday 22nd February 2020.  A day time indoor event between 10 to 3pm where prayer and praise is mingled called “The Cry: One Heart, One Hand, Together for Brisbane, State and Nation“.   Then in the evening their will be a outdoor public event of celebration and worship in King George Square between 6pm and 9pm.  .

The Cry – One Heart, One Hand, Together for Brisbane, State and Nation. (Day session)

Event: The Cry – One Heart, One Hand, Together for Brisbane, State and Nation. The daytime Brisbane Event for the National Day of Prayer & Fasting.

When: Saturday 22nd February 2020, 10am to 3pm (come for part or whole of event)

Who: For all praying Christians of every denomination (Evangelical, Protestant, Pentecostal, Catholic, and everything in  between.)

Where: Salvation Army City Temple, 167 Ann St, Brisbane City QLD 4000

What: 5 hours of prayer and praise mingled together as we pray and cry out to God on behalf for our city, state and nation.

Cost: Free.  Though donation to cover the hire of King George St from Brisbane City Council in the evening would be appreciated. Can also donate through eventbrite link below.

Register: Please register on eventbrite.    www.eventbrite.com.au/e/the-cry-one-heart-one-hand-together-for-brisbane-state-and-nation-tickets. (If you don’t have access to a computer to register, please  ask a friend to ask for a extra ticket when they book theirs. It helps us with organizing. If you haven’t been able to register for whatever reason, please still come.

Food/Drink: No catering will be provided. Fasting in some form is encouraged since it is the National Day of Prayer and FASTING. Please bring a bottle of water with you. You may slip outside to eat and snack.

Please Bring: A prepared heart, christian friends (invite your church), bible, water bottle, snacks (if applicable), Translink card, paper & pen. (Perhaps cardigan/shawl/coat (??) in case the air conditioning is not to your liking or if you continue to King George St in evening- it may cool off, or umbrella for shade or rain when  outdoors). 

Transport:  Public transport is highly recommended, as finding a carpark can be difficult, time consuming and expensive!  Refer translink.com.au/ to find the best options for yourself whether it be train, bus or ferry.  Consider coming in as a group from your church. We recommend catching a train to central station and then walking half a block along Ann St to the Salvation Army building.  Alternatively a slightly longer walk from Roma St bus/train station. (Driving and parking is not recommended based on experience in 2018 where carparks was found to be full and overflowing a few hours before the event started and some people gave up and drove home).

Children: Children are welcome to come provided that they want to join in. No child minding is provided.

More details: This event been organised by the Brisbane Prays team, and kindly hosted by the Brisbane Salvation Army Church. Various worship bands and other prayer groups (apart from the Brisbane Prays team) will be leading throughout the day. So it will be very much a combined effort.

Worship and Celebration – King George Square (Saturday Evening session 6-9pm)

Where: King George Square between Ann St and Adelaide St near Albert St, Brisbane City (UBD Map 2 E20)

Who: Christians, public, anyone walking by. This is for all churches and all Christians.

What: 3 hours of public worship, praise and celebration led by worship bands.

Cost: Free.  Though donation to cover the hire of King George Square from the Brisbane City Council  would be appreciated through the Eventbrite link below or in the daytime session. We will NOT be taking up an offering on the night, though we will still need to cover our costs.

Transport:  Public transport is highly recommended, as finding a carpark in the inner city can be difficult to impossible, time consuming and expensive!  Refer translink.com.au/ to find the best options for yourself whether it be train, bus or ferry.  Consider coming in as a group from your church. King George Square  is a short walk from either Queen St Bus station,  Central Train Station or Roma St Train/Bus Station.   Driving and parking is NOT recommended based on past experience- as carparks are likely to already be full to overflowing – without considering the additional traffic from our event.

Bible Reading Marathon – 72 hours non stop – 21-24 Feb 2020

Brisbane Bible Reading Marathon Evening 2016

The bible reading marathon is on again this year at Speakers Corner in front of Parliament House near QUT Gardens Point entry.  It will again coincide with the National Day of Prayer and Fasting starting at 6pm Friday 21st February at Genesis and finishing with Revelations approximately 72 hours later on Monday evening the 24th of February 2020. Can you volunteer to read for one or more 15 minute segments, or pray on site, or talk to curious inquirers ?

Alexandra Hills/Redlands- National Day of Prayer & Fasting Event

When: Saturday 22nd February 2020, 10am to 4pm

Where: The Salvation Army / Bayside Community Church, 1-9 MacArthur St, Alexandra Hills QLD 4161

Parking & transport: There is plenty of onsite parking. Public bus stop is close by.

Please bring: Friends, water bottle, bible, prepared heart.

Extra details: Tea and coffee will be provided. If you want lunch or snacks you will need to bring your own and slip out to eat, as no catering will be provided. No booking or RSVP required, just turn up. Christians from all churches are welcome.

Children: Children welcome with parents. Please call to discuss childcare if you require it, as it will only be arranged if needed.

Location of Bayside Community Church

Redcliffe National Day of Prayer & Fasting Event

When: Saturday 22nd February 2020 between 10am to 4pm.

Where:  7 Ashmole Rd,  Redcliffe at Lord of the Breakthrough. See map below for an approximate location. (Near intersection of Ashmole Rd and Anzac Ave -2nd building south). To help you find the prayer meeting, the church has a “open for prayer” sign in flashing lights similar to a fish ‘n’ chip shop in the front window.

Parking: The rear parking lot is accessed from Hibiscus street or you can just park out the front on Ashmole Rd. Most people enter the church through the back door near the carpark.

Other details: The National Day of Prayer & Fasting at this location has been well attended in past years with many others coming from other churches. Lord of the Breakthrough (www.breakthrough.net.au)  is a good environment to meet for prayer, as the church has been meeting daily for early morning prayer for 20 years (6am to 7:30am).  You are welcome to join their normal  Saturday 6am to noon  prayer meeting which prays into current issues affecting our nation.

What: Two prayer and worship nights on Friday and Saturday nights; Plus 24 hour Prayer Room

Event 1: Prayer and Worship Night Friday 21st February 2020 from 7pm to 9pm

Event 2: Prayer and Worship Night Saturday 22nd February 2020 from 7pm to 9pm

Event 3: 24 hour prayer room from Friday 9pm to Saturday 22nd February 2020 9pm. People from Lifepoint church have been rostered on over the 24 hours. They would welcome people from other churches to join them.

Where:  All events are at the warehouse location of Lifepoint Church “The Hub” at  1/16 Bremner Rd, Rothwell, QLD 4022.
